The southern California country music festival, Stagecoach, is getting closer and closer. In fact, as of today, we only have 45 more days left on our countdown. So, for those of us that aren’t hipster, and don’t smell bad enough to enjoy Coachella, I’d love to highlight some of the great acts that will be performing at the lesser known Indio festival.
This Nashville based alt-country, bluegrass band isn’t new to the country music scene in the least, but I only discovered their music recently, and have thoroughly enjoyed the discovery. Though the band has been around since 1998 and have released four studio albums, the resurgence of one of their biggest hits, “Wagon Wheel” (co-authored by the iconic Bob Dylan) has definitely thrust this off-center band into the limelight. The rendition currently on the radio is a duet between Darius Rucker and Lady Antebellum, bringing more of a pop edge to the usually gritty and sing-along style of the OCMS version.
Listening to their music puts you on a dirt road or an old wooden front porch. They capture the old country feel effortlessly, with flawless string lines and perfectly in sync harmonies that are as beautiful as they are eccentric.
If bluegrass isn’t your thing, I definitely wouldn’t suggests this band to you. But if you can appreciate an old-time feel, strings that run wild, and deep southern drawls; definitely check them out. They’ll be performing on one of the side stages at Stagecoach on Friday, April 26th, 2013.
