Music Monday – Striking Matches

Music Monday – Striking Matches

I can’t even remember how Striking Matches came to my attention, I’m sure it had something to do with the ABC show Nashville, since I tend to try and find out who wrote what on a regular basis. This beautiful songwriting duo have had multiple songs featured on the show including “Hangin’ on a Lie” and “When The Right One Comes Along.” To be honest, as much as I’m a fan of the show, I find their version of “When The Right One Comes Along” to be much more intimate and emotional than the version on the show. There’s no push to be overtly country, there’s no overly pronounced whisper in Sarah Zimmerman’s voice, and the dynamic between her and Justin Davis is electric. They have an EP up on Spotify, but it’s not nearly enough to satisfy me, and I’m kind of a little desperate for more music from them.

They’ve recently been given the opportunity to play the Opry and continuously do shows  at other Nashville hotspots. If you’re in the Nashville area, be sure to check out their website for up-coming performances. You know I’ll be checking constantly in hopes of new music…

Meanwhile, take a listen to their song “Blame It On Me” and let me know what you think!

  1. Thanks for posting this – I watch Nashville but didn’t realise other versions of the songs were around . Good to know the original writers and performers .
