There is no doubt that 2013 is the year of Kacey Musgraves. Her debut album, Same Trailer, Different Park was released to rave reviews from critics and fans alike, she’s won several Country Music awards from the ACA’s to the CMA’s, and is nominated for four Grammy Awards for both her debut and other songwriting credits. She’s written for artists like Miranda Lambert and Deana Carter, to name just a few, proving that she’s more than a pretty face on an album cover. But if all this weren’t enough to top off 2013 for the young singer/songwriter, this weekends New York Times will shower her with even more accolades.
Three writers for the Times have listed Musgraves in their “Top Songs” list for 2013. Jon Pareles listed “Follow Your Arrow” in his top songs section, while both Pop columnist Jon Caramanica and contributor Nate Chinen list “It Is What It Is” as one of their top songs. It’s exciting to see this recent up-and-comer get the credit that she so very deserves. Her songwriting has continued to set her apart from the norm in country music, yet her differences haven’t distanced her from accolades and awards, but bolstered her popularity to make her one of the Texas sweethearts of the genre. It’s exciting to think that this is only the beginning of her career and to anticipate what will follow when she begins whatever new project is up next for her.
