Maddie & Tae are my new favorite people. I’m really excited about this turn of event with the women in the genre, speaking out against the stereotypical female cliche that’s currently taking over the airwaves. While there’s a time and a place for the party girl throwing out her YOLO dance moves (we’ve all been there), there’s so much more to southern women (and women in general) than shaking it in their daisy dukes on a regular basis. Maddie & Tae respond to their male counterparts in a witty and highly amusing way in the new video for “Girl In A Country Song.” With a little bit of role reversal that includes the men shaking it in short shorts and getting whistled at as they walk by, it’s almost too much to handle. In a good way, of course.
While the women goodheartedly poke fun at not only the bro-country genre, but also the carbon copy music videos they produce, they put themselves in the role of songwriters with guitars. It makes me love what they’re trying to prove even more, that there’s a value in being a talented, independent woman with a voice. Honestly, I want to be best friends with them, I feel like we have some things we could discuss in depth.
