*Guest blogger, Denise Empey of Two Tone Umbrella based out of Newport Beach, California, shares her tips and tricks for perfect, Kimberly Schlapman-style curls!*
Who do I think has the hottest head of curly hair in country music? Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town, of course. With the release of their newest album, PainKiller, those gorgeous curls have been everywhere from morning shows to late night TV. And I am obsessed with them! We all want what we can’t have. And right now I want those healthy looking textured curls.
If you’re lucky enough to have a beautiful head of curly hair, here are some simple steps to maintaining, smoothing, and amplifying your hair.
Step 1: The best results are after using cleansing shampoo and moisturizing conditioner.Tip: Don’t forget to use a cold water rinse. Cold water keeps your hair cuticle closed and hot opens up the cuticle which could contribute to the frizzes. Right out of the shower, wrap your hair in a micro-fiber towel, it really helps the removal of excess water in your hair.
Step 2: Section your hair into 3 or 4 sections depending how fine or coarse your hair is, take your wide tooth comb and detangle your hair with a leave in conditioner. Continue to take your sections and apply a light gel or serum from the scalp to the ends. Tip: Stay away from medium or hard gels they have too much alcohol which can causes crunchy and dried out curls. Comb in and saturate the hair completely with your product.
Step 3: Take a larger section and create small sections, finger width apart. Twirl and wrap each section with your fingers toward the face. You will repeat this technique throughout your entire head. Once done, air dry outside, completely. Tip: Do not brush, comb or add any blow drying tool to your hair. Once your hair is fully dry, take your smooth and textured curls down and lightly add a shine serum or oil and separate. Whoa La!
Remember, textured curls get better and better by day 2 or 3. Your hair will feel more manageable, longer and shiner.
