Southern Beauty: 5 Must-Have Fall Pieces On A Budget!

You may not know this, but I’m that basic woman that completely freaks out over fall weather. It might have something to do with being from California, and how rare it is that we get to wrap ourselves in scarves and gloves and hats… but I love it! The second I can throw on a light jacket, or rock boots without it being 95 degrees, I am so there.

This week marks the first hint of fall after a sultry California summer full of heat-waves and high electric bills. Needless to say, I’ve been rocking a jacket and boots all week and immediately started perusing Pinterest in search of my favorite fall looks. After collecting (one too many) ideas, I thought I’d share what I think are the must-haves of the season, inspired by some of our favorite country stars.

NOTE: I’m no big spender, most of the time I’m shopping at TJMaxx or Nordstroms Rack to find quality clothes that will last, but won’t break the bank. So take a look at my list below!

1. Colorful Shoes

We tend to go right into muted tones when fall hits. We throw on our blacks and whites, grab a brown leather jacket, or toss on a maroon sweater. With so much of that stocked into our closets, it’s hard to figure out where to throw in that subtle pop of color. Bright red boots or electric blue pumps are the perfect way to get a little color, without going totally overboard. I’m not a flashy person, so I tend to wear a lot of flash in my shoes, it’s where I get daring. I was totally inspired by the picture of Carrie Underwood from last years fashion week, I just had to search out something similar.

Suggestion: Rebecca Minkoff | Azume Suede Pump @ HauteLook $129

2. Faux Leather Leggings/Jeans

One look I’ve been in love with this season is the leather leggings. Whether they have panels of leather or the full on “wet” look, I think it’s the perfect mix of edgy and structured. I haven’t been daring enough to purchase my own yet, but I have shopping carts across the internet where they’re just sitting, waiting. I love the way Jana Kramer mixed something bright and flowy with her her skinny leather leggings. Throw on a jacket and you’re good to go for a night out with friends.

Suggestion: ASOS | Ultra Wet Look Leggings $30.32

3. Statement Necklace

This is the trend that keeps on giving. I remember when I lived in New York a few years back and women were walking around with big chunky necklaces over EVERYTHING. Over sweaters, under collars on long sleeved shirts, and even over sleeveless dresses. If you’re walking out of the house in a grey dress but throw on a really eye catching neckless, it completely changes the look and emotion of your outfit. It’s a super simple way to glam-up an otherwise laid-back ensemble. One amazing example was Miranda Lambert back in June, when she was promoting her album in New York. It’s a simple, cute, t-shirt and jeans look that she took to a whole new level with the necklace.

Suggestion: H&M | Beaded Necklace $24.95

4. Leather Jacket

I have a confession to make. I’ve spent the last two months searching for the perfect
leather jacket. When you’re a discount shopper, you have to be careful about what you’re buying. You want a jacket that is going to last you for a long time, but you obviously don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars that you probably don’t have on the piece. You want something that fits you really well so you’re not self conscious about it. And, of course, you want something that you can wear with almost anything. That’s the beauty if a leather jacket, if you pick the right one, you can wear it with everything. Like Taylor Swift here, wearing her leather jacket with an adorable skirt. It’s the perfect mix of girly and badass, exactly the kind of thing I would go for. Even though I haven’t found my perfect jacket yet, there’s a suggestion below. Though, for something like this, I’d suggest you run out and try a few on first.

Suggestion: latteBLACK | Quilted Sleeve Moto Jacket @ Ideel $69.99

5. Beanies, Hats, & Headbands

Maybe I’m cheating here, but there are so many options for what you can put on your head in the fall, that I can’t help it. Glamour magazine recently published an article declaring it BEANIE SEASON (with lots of exclamation points) and I really agree. When we were children we used to hate being stuffed into hats before sent off into the cold, but now it’s part of our overall look. The slouchy beanies, oversized hats, and perfectly placed headbands will transition just as easily into fall when we don’t want to deal with the bedhead we woke up with. They look good, cover up flyaways, and keep your ears warm. I’d have to say that is a major win/win. Check out Hayden Panettiere’s floppy hat and full-on fall ensemble. It’s safe to say the Nashville star has it figured out.

Suggestion: Jane Divine | Floppy Fedora $28.95
