Not so long ago I fell in love with a duo out of Las Vegas called Jill & Julia. These two young sisters had released an exciting debut EP, “Wildfire” that was fueled by raw attitude and ridiculous amounts of talent. I was immediately swept away by their passionate songwriting and beautiful harmonies, so in my usual fashion, I just had to tell the world (and/or just my followers) all about them.
Well, after a really crazy 2014 in which they were featured in Billboard Magazine, performed at CMA Fest, and hosted ZUUS Country’s TV show “Country on the Rise,” they’re back with a brand new single. “Cursed” pulls all the same strings as their debut EP, but it takes it a step further in the slow burn of the music that allows the track a beautiful opportunity to breathe. A dramatic, rock infused country style is buried in rambling banjo and drawling choruses that would be just as at home on the Americana music scene. Their voices meld together, building a subtle anticipation before the instrumentation takes hold in an explosive bridge that’s nearly impossible not to close your eyes and lose yourself in.
They’re a bit of a softer Miranda Lambert. Maybe softer is the wrong word, a Miranda that’s a little less redneck and a bit more polished, but still has no fear of spitting out fiery attitude. Jill & Julia are proving that they’re a forced to be reckoned with as each new piece of music is presented to the masses. With a new album set to be released in 2015, I have a feeling things are about to get crazy for these two. And I can’t wait to see that happen for them.
“Cursed” is out today at all major music outlets, including iTunes and Amazon. Be sure to pick-up a copy!
