Discovery Time: High Valley’s “Make You Mine” Will Make You Wanna Dance

I get sent a lot of music these days, and that’s not me complaining, because I’m loving every second of weeding through things and discovering artists that make me want to sing their praises from the mountain tops. Candian born duo, High Valley, is 100% one of those bands. They has just released their first country radio single, “Make You Mine” off of their debut album “Country Line,” and let me tell you… it’s something special. This dance-able country track is infused with little bits and pieces of traditional bluegrass, from banjo to steel guitar to mandolin, it ramps you up and makes you want to square dance your way through life. Bonus points for featuring Bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs, who lifts the entire sound to the next level. And SURPRISE, they got my attention because of their killer harmonies and smooth as silk voices that are destined to make all the girls crazy (including this one).

These are two guys that are giving country music a good name. It’s a refreshing sound that I can only hope will hit radio hard. Even though it’s a sweet little love song about getting the girl that’s dancing through your dreams, it’s got a rush of instrumentation that doesn’t contain a single synthesizer, and we all know how overly synthed some of that country radio is right now. These two brothers are tried and true songwriters, with lead singer Brad Rempel having co-wrote nine out of the ten tracks on their album, as well as tracks for other artists like Trisha Yearwood. They’re inspired by bands like Rascal Flatts and Alabama, as well as the bluegrass music that was scattered throughout their youth. They’ve already toured with major artists like Shania Twain and Little Big Town, but HUGE SURPRISE HERE, they’re not signed yet. Needless to say, their dedication to their craft and the spirit of their inspirations lives on in this particular track, and it will make you want to pick up their album, which is out on iTunes now.
