In honor of last weeks Nashville Fashion Week, I thought I’d combined two of my absolute favorite things an a column throughout this week called When Fashion Meets Music. I’ll be highlighting Nashville talent in the music scene to find out what makes them tick when it comes to fashion. Whether it’s that outfit that always makes them feel like they’re on top of the world, or that lucky charm necklace they literally can’t go anywhere without, I’m getting to the bottom of what pushes us to love fashion just as much as we love music.
To start, let me introduce California girl, Kelly Fauth, who recently moved to Nashville from the beautiful west coast to continue pursuing her dream. The powerhouse vocalist has been singing since she was three years old and her talent shows from the moment you hear her belt out the beginning of Wedding March, the first tack off her 2014 EP Weapon of Choice. She’s toured the world singing back-up for artists like Coheed and Cambria, at festivals and venues like Madision Square Garden and Bamboozle, and even opened for Hanson. Needless to say, she’s no strange to the power of performance and the confidence boost the stage can elicit. Her voice is an explosive mix of Carrie Underwood, Grace Potter and Adele, her music a unique exploration of pop melodies and blues vocals that radiate through each and every moment of her EP. Her vocals alone would be enough to carry each and every track, but the inspiring messages and cohesive sound make for an EP that begs for a second and third listen. More than that, she’s a force to be reckon with when it comes to mixing up fashion and crafting a perfectly confident outfit that combines boho chic and west coast effortlessness. Check out some of her favorite fashion trends below!
When you’re getting ready to hit the stage, what songs do you put on to get that boost of confidence?
Misery Business by Paramore is my go-to. You can’t not feel pumped when you listen to that song. Also, anything by Led Zeppelin or Grace Potter & The Nocturnals.
What are some of your favorite Nashville stores (or designers)?
Well I’m pretty new to town, so I haven’t had a chance to explore too many stores. So far my favorite place to shop is Blush. There’s a location in The Gulch and one in Belle Meade. It’s a dangerous place for me to
go because I can’t not spend money when I go in there.
Which Spring fashion trends are you most excited about?
I love the fringe look, as long as it’s tasteful and not overdone. I’m also seeing a lot of bright, bold, red this spring which I’m super stoked about. I also love when spring comes around because I can break out my dresses. The dress I’m wearing in my photo is kind of a 90’s inspired cut-out dress I found at Blush. It reminds me of something Kelly Kapowski would wear on Saved By The Bell and I love it.
Of all the trends out there right now, which one is your favorite to rock when you’re performing and why?
I’m not sure if it’s really a trend, but I usually go with the simple t-shirt, jeans, leather jacket look. I don’t like to dress too pretty or girly on stage. My style icon is Gwen Stefani. I’ve always loved how she takes simple, almost masculine clothing items but then really dolls herself up on the hair and makeup to make them more feminine. I mean, she took a simple boy’s wife-beater and made it one of the most popular women’s clothing items of the 90’s. She’s amazing and I just love everything about her style.
Fashion and Music both have the power to inspire people all across the world. What do you love about fashion and how does it inspire you?
It just enhances my confidence, especially when I’m on stage. Having the perfect outfit that makes me feel comfortable and sexy makes a huge difference when I’m performing. I think that’s another reason I love Gwen Stefani so much, she has created a whole brand based off of combining music and fashion. LAMB is by far my favorite line.
