If you’re at all familiar with the bright lights of Broadway in Nashville, particularly Tootsies, you may have heard the name David Ray before. Two years ago during CMA Fest my friends and I piled into a packed Tootsies for the very first time, and David was on stage, completely blowing the minds of everyone in attendance. Sure, until recently I’d only ever heard him do covers of everything from Luke Bryan to Bon Jovi and back again, but David can hold his own when it comes to his music. He pours his heart and soul into every second on stage, giving the crowd an infectious energy, making it near impossible not to have the time of your life. Plus, for $20 he’ll play any Kip Moore song you could dream up. Tourists love that.
His new single, Light It Up, could most definitely hold its own alongside popular artists like Luke, Blake Shelton, and even other new comers like Frankie Ballard and Charlie Worsham. He’s got built in charisma that practically drips from every moment of the track. It’s the male side of Taylor Swift’s Picture To Burn, minus the whiney teenage girl moments that plague the latter, but chock full of attitude that will send you running for the matches. It’s a quintessential break-up song, with a hard hitting clap-along beat and a hooky chorus that demands you sing along, it’s practically built for an epic live performance. David Ray’s popularity has been bubbling to the surface for a long time around Nashville, so it’s about time this guy get some national attention.
Take a listen to Light It Up, then buy it on iTunes. If you’re coming for CMA Fest, David will take the Roadhouse Stage during the festivities. But if you miss him there, be sure to pay attention to his Twitter and Facebook, where he frequently lets people know whether or not he’ll be hitting the Tootsies stage.
