Another vivid Christmas memory is attached the intensity of “Carol of the Bells.” I was in choir every year of my high school life, and every single year, we went caroling on Balboa Island. From corner to corner, park bench to dock, my Madrigal choir spent hours making our way around the island in an effort to fill the air with perfectly harmonized carols. One of my all time favorites was “Carol of the Bells,” not only because of the infectious way it never leaves your head, but because of the levels of harmonies that are naturally built into this amazing tune.
It still stands out as one of my favorite, and when someone covers it and touches every aspect of the chaotic harmony and underlying verses, it instantly makes me a fan of what they do. Of course, LeAnn Rimes doesn’t need to make a fan out of me, because I already very much am. But this version of the song reminds me so much of my caroling days, that I couldn’t help but fall deeply in love with it.
Is there a version of “Carol of the Bells” that you love? Let me know in the comments.
