In all the time I’ve been in Nashville, I’ve yet to attend a small show featuring a pop artist. But that all changed when I went out to see Aaron Krause take the stage at the High Watt on March 3rd. From the very first beat the energy in the room was radiating from one end to the other. The audience swaying, interested and engaged, as Aaron took us on a journey that was nothing short of invigorating and magical. He set the stage at the very beginning, lights down with subtle and unique glow in the back lighting, before morphing into an all out technicolor experience.
The highlights of the show came in the form of a few distinctly different yet cohesive songs, including Don’t Wanna Lose You, the effervescently romantic Honey, Fire, and of course, the otherworldly 80’s vibin’ Jade. If you don’t already have any of his music, make sure you change that.
The show opener, Jillian Edwards, was a wonder to behold on her own though very different in style. Her singer/songwriter tunes got to the heart of the matter. Every single track had a way of pulling at heartstrings. Reminiscent of Jewel’s early years with a hint of Fiona Apple prose, she managed to shine with just an acoustic guitar in hand.
