NYC Beat: DEMAR celebrates EP release with soulful night at Pianos

DEMAR brought the soul to NYC.

On October 18th, DEMAR premiered songs off her debut EP, Rebels, to a packed crowd at Pianos on New York City’s Lower East Side. The songstress, who has traveled the world honing her craft including time spent in London and her hometown of Miami, Fla., blew us all away with her addictive vocals. This girl can SING.

It was clear that she was passionate, not only about music but about the collection of songs that make-up Rebel. The atmospheric mix of electro-pop leaves listeners swimming in emotions, yet revitalized by the addictive beat and hooky choruses. Like “Fire,” a track that possesses a darkly delicious flavor, packed full of attitude. Or the heartbreaking ballad, “Games,” a harrowing song about the games we play in love that tear us apart. Then there’s the debut single, “Wild Ride,” a song that’s already received┬ápraise from publications like PopMatters and Brightest Young Things. The gritty, dark tune perfectly captures the essence of falling. With its allusive┬ávibe, slamming beat and unexpected melody, it demands a repeat listen.

Add all of this to a live setting, and DEMAR becomes this eclectic mix of disenchanted pop a la Lorde with Adele’s powerhouse vocal range. It’s electric. It’s invigorating. And it’s was a night that made me want to listen to the EP on repeat. (Which I did.)

DEMAR is an artist you will consistently find yourself coming back to. From the sleek production style to the enigmatic energy, she’s crafted an EP that is deserving of a second and third listen.
